It’s that time of year…

My favorite time of year!!

If you aren’t already aware, Halloween is my favorite holiday. I try to read a few suspense/mystery themed books in October, if my mood allows. Unfortunately, I’ve been such a moody reader lately that these types of books aren’t appealing to me at the moment. I know – it’s terrible! I am really hoping in the next two weeks I can get out of my reading funk and pick up a good, spooky book, hopefully from this list!

It’s coming….

I think pulling together my Halloween TBR is by far my favorite post of the year. I’ve done this the past several years, and though I may not always stick to my list, it’s still fun. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I love reading all the creepy books this time of year!

And speaking of Halloween – I couldn’t be more excited for the movie coming out this month. My husband and I will definitely be going (he has to work on opening weekend, so I’m getting tickets for the weekend after). Can’t wait!

Except I’m changing it up a bit, since I can never plan what I’m reading next (moody reader). Instead I’m going to talk about a book I’ve recently added to my TBR that I’m excited about!

 

Last weekend was all about reading. I finished 3 books, which never happens! I signed up for the Dewey’s Readathon this upcoming weekend, and I’m hoping to repeat another weekend of great reading. I plan on getting Sunnie involved too! We talked about stopping at the library this week and making a little TBR pile of books to read on Saturday. If she meets her goal of reading them all I promised to take her to the bookstore on Sunday and let her pick out a new book. 😉 I already told my hubby we’re going to be getting pizza for dinner and to keep himself busy all day.

How I go from taking 2 weeks to finish ONE book, to reading 2 books in one weekend, I don’t know. But I’m officially out of my book slump! I enjoyed The Night Sister, and added another book by the author to my TBR list. Big Girls Do It Running is an excellent motivational book. I really enjoyed reading about the author’s journey, and she has some great recommendations for losing weight and being healthier. I picked up Retrieval on a whim, because it was being marketed as a romantic suspense (which is a good mix for me), and holy addicting read! I finished it in a day, which is rare for me! I immediately picked up the second book in the duet and finished it last night. Both were 4 star reads (loved the story, but I’m so over the whole alpha male crap in books).

I’ve had this book on my Kindle for awhile (thanks, Netgalley!), and I’ve never read anything by this author. It’s getting a lot of great reviews, which got my attention. It reads really fast because of the suspense. I’m enjoying it!

 

WHat i have recently added to my tbr

This book caught my attention on Goodreads when I was looking for some good thrillers to read. I have never read anything by this author, and it’s the second book in a series….so I’m hoping it’s okay to jump right to this one!

Last weekend was a bit of a crap show. I ran the 5k on the runway, but at the 2.5 mile mark I popped my hamstring and had to walk the rest of the way. Who’d have ever thought I’d have a sports-related injury in my lifetime. Certainly not me! I’m pretty pissed off about it, because now I’m having to rest my leg and not run or walk for the time being. Probably a minimum of a week. I’m hoping that’s all the longer, because I hate not being able to run and keep up on my steps. It’s how I deal with stress!

And on top of that, my daughter was sick with a cold/cough that kept her up Saturday night. I’m thankful it wasn’t a weeknight, so we were able to be lazy and rest on Sunday. On a good note, she’s feeling much better!

I’m LOVING the colder weather we’re having. Perfect sleeping weather – I sleep the best this time of year! I refuse to turn up our heat, which my husband isn’t too happy about. 😉 We have been using the fireplace, though – it’s so cozy!

Absolutely nothing. I haven’t been able to focus on a book for a week. Nothing I pick up is oh-my-god-I-can’t-put-this-down exciting. It’s not the books, it’s me. I’m so easily distracted these days, either by my phone or the tv.

I’ve had this book on my Kindle since last October, so I finally decided to try it. It’s good, I’m enjoying it. Definitely kinda creepy.

 

WHat i have recently added to my tbr

I was super excited to receive this on Netgalley earlier this week! Sarah Jio is one of my favorite authors, and I always look forward to her new releases. This one sounds so good! Her books are always good for pulling me out of a book slump – I may have to break my ‘only creepy reads in October’ rule and start it soon. Anything to help me focus on a book!
