Five Things Friday ~ 6-9-17

1. this week in reading

It was just okay. I was expecting a lot more suspense than I got – when the suspense finally hit (85% into the book), I had it all figured out.

Another case of disappointing hype. I build a book up in my head after seeing so many friends loved it, and it ends up not being as good for me. This is why I try not to listen to hype!

2. New Books I’m excited about

Lots of good ones the past few weeks. 🙂

3. fun thing(s) from the week

I hadn’t realized how behind I am on Friday posts! Since my last post, Sunnie has officially become a first grader. *sob* I love having her home for summer break. Whenever I get a break in the day when I’m working from home, we’ve tried to have a little fun. Either going for walks, going to the park, or going to lunch. She’s had a couple playdates with friends – so far I think she’s loving her summer break!

She had her dance recital last weekend, which meant the official end of the season. We’ll be picking up some summer classes starting at the end of the month, but I’m glad to have a few weeks break from dance mom life. She also tried out for 3 competition teams (Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop) and we found out that she made all three teams. She’s going to be a very busy little dancer next season.

On Memorial Day we had our first family outing on the boat. It was a gorgeous day to be on the lake, and Sunnie loves ‘fishing’ with her dad.

On Sunday I went on my first fishing tournament with my husband. He’s part of a bass fishing club that participates in tournaments about half the year. Most weekends in the summer he’s in a tournament. On Sunday it rained all day long, and I got my first taste of how hard it is to deal with that (plus high winds) for a 10 hour tournament. Not once did my husband give up trying to catch fish during the miserable downpour. I was impressed with how hard he worked and never gave up, because there is no way in hell I would do that to myself more than once! It was definitely an experience!

4. Fit Readers/Life

The weather has been back and forth again. But it’s been comfortable, and I don’t have to have my air conditioning on, so I’m okay with it. 😉 It’s gorgeous out today, so I fully intend to get outside this afternoon and get some sun! The temps are supposed to warm up into the 90’s starting this weekend.

I’ve been consistent in my running schedule until this week. It is definitely tougher to get outside for a run when Sunnie is home with me. I did take her for her first run last week, where she ran/walked about 2 miles with me! She was so excited about it, and I loved sharing that with her. I have been waiting to run when my husband gets home from work this week so that I can get it done outside instead of on the dreadmill. There is something so unappealing about running on the treadmill when the weather is perfect for it outside! I’m planning on going for a run today when he gets home. If the temps warm up like they say, I’ll be having to use my treadmill in the mornings, because waiting until the afternoon will be brutal in the heat.

5. looking ahead

Today is a work from home day. I got up really early this morning to get my house cleaned and get laundry started. I’ll work for a couple hours and plan on taking a break to let Sunnie play outside for awhile.

Tomorrow I have plans to meet up with my best friend for lunch. We’re going to The Cheesecake Factory, which is my absolute favorite place to eat! I am really looking forward to spending the day with her. I’ll need to get in a run on the dreadmill in the morning to alleviate the guilt from the giant piece of cheesecake I’ll most definitely be eating.

Sunday my hubby is in a tournament, so it’ll be me and Sunnie enjoying the 90 degree day! I don’t know what fun we’ll get into, but we’ll definitely be outside most of the day. Next week I’ll be in the office most days, so I’m going to enjoy as much of the weather this weekend as I can.

Have a great weekend!

Five Things Friday ~ 5-26-17

1. this week in reading

Of course I loved it, because it’s Amy Harmon. It was very unique and different than any of her other books, which just made me love it more.

2. New Books I’m excited about

I am beyond excited that I was approved for the new Sandra Brown! Starting that baby tonight.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Monday I went on Sunnie’s class trip to the zoo. She had a blast and we had perfect weather for it.

I’ve been doing some redecorating and organizing at home lately. Purging and getting rid of a bunch of stuff we’ve had stored in our attic. That may not seem like fun to most people, but I love cleaning and de-cluttering my house!

4. Fit Readers/Life

The weather for the rest of the week has been rainy and gross. I have managed to run outside a few days. One day I ran in the rain (which I never do), because I knew if I didn’t go outside I wouldn’t be motivated to do anything all day.  Pretty over all the rain and ready for some sunshine!

5. looking ahead

I’m in the office today, but then I’m off Monday and working from home on Tuesday. Sunnie has an end-of-year party at her dance studio tonight, and my hubby is going fishing. So, I’m planning on going for a run (stay away, rain).  Not a whole lot planned the next few days, because more rain. Yuck.  We’re really hoping the weather turns around so that Sunnie and I can go out on the boat with my hubby on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

Five Things Friday ~ 5-19-17

1. this week in reading

You guys, if you haven’t read an Amy Harmon book, you’re really missing out. Her writing is so beautiful. This book – I just loved it SO MUCH. I seriously didn’t want it to end.

Now I’m in a book funk and have NO clue what to read next.

2. New Books I’m excited about

Since We Fell is my first Lehane book, and my first Book of the Month! Pretty excited to read it. I needed more Kristan Higgins in my life, and I pre-ordered A Million Junes.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Last weekend I ran my first 5k race since October. I had a pretty good time, good enough to score the third place medal for my age group. I had to bump up an age group this year…blah. Lol. It was perfect running weather, and I was really happy with how I did. I run 5k’s almost every day that I run, but when it’s an actual race I push myself harder. I was just glad I didn’t cause any more strain to my hamstring and that I had a decent time.

After the race I had to book it to the school carnival, where I was signed up to help all afternoon. It was our first carnival, and it seemed to be successful. At least Sunnie had a great time.

The weather in Ohio was gorgeous this week. Went from freezing to hotter than Hades overnight. I tried to get outside a few days and enjoy the sunshine. And I don’t really like having to turn on my AC in May, but it was so hot that I wouldn’t have been able to sleep. And mama needs her sleep.

4. Fit Readers/Life

Sunnie got sick yet again. Ugh. My hubby had strep (second time in 2 months) and was on antibiotics. I managed to avoid it (knock on wood), but Sunnie ended up with a sinus infection. After a week of her being miserable and nothing we did was working for her, the doctor put her on a z-pack. THANK GOD school is almost over!! We need a break from the germ fest.

A few nights of her coughing and sleeping with me meant no running the next morning. I was just too tired. But I did manage to get to the park three days this week for my run. Running outside is always a treat for me. Especially when the weather is perfect for it.

And because fighting illness wasn’t enough, we had to get a new washing machine this week, and call a plumber for issues we were having with our bathroom drains. Adulting ain’t easy or good for my bank account.

5. looking ahead

Today I’m working from home and have managed to fit in some cleaning and laundry. My parents have asked to have Sunnie for a sleepover tonight – they aren’t seeing her as much as before, now that I’m part time. And because she’s their only grandchild and Sunnie loves staying there, I can’t say no. My hubby is hoping to get home from work a little earlier so he can take me out on the boat tonight. Date night on the lake is my favorite!

Tomorrow morning Sunnie has dance competition tryouts (at 9:00…what is this madness). Then we’re meeting one of my girlfriends for lunch (Mexican…margaritas, yes?!) My hubby has a fishing tournament on Sunday, and the weather isn’t looking all that great (rain/storms). Sunnie and I will just be relaxing and taking it easy. On Monday her class is going to the Akron Zoo, and I signed up as a chaperon. We haven’t been to this zoo, and she is excited to go. I could care less about zoos (sorry…just not my thing), but when my child asks me to come I’m not going to let her down. 😉

Have a great weekend!

Five Things Friday ~ 5-5-17

1. this week in reading

I finally finished this one! It was almost as good as On Second Thought. I can’t wait for her next book!

2. New Books I’m excited about

I’m jumping on the Maas train and plan to read the rest of this series.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

I turned 36 yesterday, and it was a great day! I received so many wonderful messages and cards from friends and family and coworkers. It’s really just been a great week. Last weekend my hubby and I had a date night with my best friend and her hubby. After we had an awesome dinner (and cheesecake) we went to a local bar for a few drinks. It was such a great night. Monday I went and got my birthday present – a new tattoo. I LOVE it.

On Tuesday one of my other best girlfriends came into town and treated me to lunch. And last night my hubby and daughter took me to dinner to celebrate. Sunnie was so excited to give me the present she picked out and the card she made me. I felt so loved all week!

4. Fit Readers

The weather has been cold and rainy for the past week, but I did manage to get outside for a run a couple days when we got a break from it. It’s looking like rain for the next several days – yuck! When the weather is doing this in between thing, I find it really hard to be motivated to use my treadmill. I just want to run outside! I cut myself some slack yesterday on exercise and eating (I mean, it was my birthday, so calories don’t count, right?!). I need to make up for it today and at least run on the treadmill, as it’s pouring down rain right now.

5. looking ahead

Sunnie’s final dance competition for the year is this Sunday. We’ll be staying in a hotel Saturday night, as she has to be ready to dance first thing Sunday morning. Because I won’t be home much, my plan is to get as much done as I can today!

Have a great weekend!

Five Things Friday ~ 4-28-17

1. this week in reading

I am finding that I love Kristan Higgins books when they are more serious. They are slower reads, but oh so fantastic!

2. New Books I’m excited about

Excited about all of these, especially the new Sarah Morgan. She’s my go-to for romance.

3. fun thing(s) from the week

Another perfect weather week that allowed me to run outside several days. Yesterday I was able to have lunch with Sunnie at her school. I love being able to do that, and being able to pick her up from school most days. The extra hour that I gain in our day makes a huge difference.

4. life happens

Motivation to stay active comes and goes, especially when my hamstring acts up. I had some great runs this week, but then I started feeling pain and knew I needed to back off. I woke up yesterday feeling very sore and VERY unmotivated to do anything, so I took it as a sign that my body needed a day off. I guess life is all about balance, right? I just have to learn to be okay with it, even when the guilt starts to get to me.

5. looking ahead

My birthday is next week, and my hubby asked me what I’d want to do to celebrate. I made a reservation for Saturday night at the Twisted Olive, which is a fun Italian place/winery close to home. My best friend and her hubby are going to join us, and I can’t wait! I also made an appointment for a new tattoo on Monday, which I’ll share after it’s done. 😉

Have a great weekend!
